I had learned a lot since the lifeguard training started. I didn’t think it was too complicated of how the training could be, but the lessons had completely changed my mind. On the first day, the coaches tested each of us on where our limit was. Unfortunately, some people think they could not go through the training by how the first lesson is going and quit, which is reasonable because the training distance is at least over 1000 meters everyday. The first important lesson we learned is how to use CPR and AED when emergencies happen. Even though I understand the concepts, it was difficult to apply to real people when it comes to practice because there are a lot of pressures felt when doing a real living human. We learned a lot of skills such as how to escape when a drowning person wants to grab you, different positions on carrying people to swim, the 4 lifeguard strokes, use of stretchers to carry injured people. I think one of the best parts is going to the beach, we get to train in the sea and do fun activities such as swimming around different sites and lessons of life board.
Lifeguard’s Value:
I think the most important part of being a lifeguard is the ability to react when emergencies happen and provide the right solutions, save more people with less strength. When seeing people drown, we could help them using the knowledge learnt in class and avoid the unnecessary loss of lives. The value of lifeguards could be saving people, they could also teach others to how to play safely in the open water areas and even save others in need.
